1. How are attendees selected?

The selection process carefully considers various factors, including:

  • Age range
  • Gender
  • Community
  • Education
  • Geographic location

Emphasis is placed on maintaining a balanced representation among applicants.

The selection criteria depend on:

  • Collective preferences of participants

The goal is to harmonize applicant desires with the overall demand for attendance.

2. When and where is the event held?

Dates: February 2-3 Location: Sheraton Times Square Hotel, NYC

3. What’s the hotel accommodation cost?

The cost for accommodation at the Sheraton Times Square Hotel is subsidized at $219-229 per night, and there will be no additional destination fee. Typically, this fee amounts to $30 but will be waived for our event attendees.

4. How much does the convention cost?

The participation fee for the convention is $475.

5. Can I bring a guest?

Guests can join the after-parties on both nights but not the main event.

6. How can I sponsor or volunteer?

To become a vendor or volunteer, fill out the respective application forms on the site.

7. Is the event inclusive of people who are divorced?

Absolutely! All individuals, including single parents, divorced individuals, and others, are welcome.

8. What is included in our ticket price? 

Breakdown of the $475 ticket price (Actual cost per person without sponsors: $835):

  • Marketing: $25
  • Staff: $100
  • Speed dating: $75 (Room rental fees/equipment)
  • Cocktail Receptions for both nights: $350
  • Entertainment: $40
  • Decor/Production/Branding/Lighting/Sound/Visuals/Lanyards: $200
  • Photo/Video/Graphics: $25
  • PR: $20

9. Why is there an application fee?

The fee helps cover event costs, application review staff, and marketing expenses for wider outreach.

10. Is there an age requirement?

While not mandatory, applicants aged 24 to 45 are recommended for a better chance at meaningful connections.

11. Is the LGBT+ community included?

Yes, we enthusiastically encourage participation and will ensure designated spaces for preferences within the community.

12. Can international applicants apply?

Residency in the USA isn’t compulsory, though 98% of attendees are typically based in the USA.

13. Will it be the same as last year?

While many elements will remain the same as last year, the format for 2024 has undergone slight enhancements to ensure a better experience. The event will commence with speed dating, followed by mixers, and conclude with a cocktail reception. Notably, this year will feature two days of speed dating with smaller groups, increased space, and additional bars to promote smoother interactions and maximize opportunities for mingling!

14. Is Mohan Matchmaking more of a party or just speed dating?

Mohan Matchmaking offers a unique experience. The after parties are not affiliated with the official Mohan Matchmaking agenda. We organize these post-event gatherings exclusively for those who enjoy such occasions and wish to attend with friends, especially for those traveling together. While over 95% of last year’s guests attended the after party, it’s crucial to note that this is not a part of the Mohan Matchmaking agenda; attendance is entirely optional. Our goal is to make this weekend unforgettable for everyone, emphasizing that the experience extends beyond finding a match — we want you to have an amazing overall experience.

15. What happens if I’m not accepted?

While we would love to accommodate every application, our capacity is limited, and we can only accept a finite number of guests. If any spots become available, we will open up the waitlist and accept people on a rolling basis.

16. Can I apply on behalf of someone else?

Certainly! You are welcome to apply on behalf of a friend or a family member. Please ensure that you inform the applicant that you are completing this application on their behalf.

17. When will I find out if I’m accepted?

We carefully review thousands of applications each year and prioritize the selection process to maintain a fair representation of genders and age groups. Upon submitting your application, you will be automatically placed on our waitlist. If we find a suitable fit for you, we will send you an invitation.

Applications are reviewed on a weekly basis and you will find out within 7 days of applying.

18. Event Details: Tentative Schedule

Friday:

  • 10 AM-6 PM: Registration (Only a 30-minute requirement; if you miss this slot, you can register afterward – You will register for a time once you download the app next week.)
  • 6:00 PM: Speed Dating (We recommend staying in dress code for the reception, but you can wear whatever you want.)
  • 7:30 PM: Group Activity (Again, we suggest sticking to the dress code for the reception, but you have the flexibility to wear whatever you want.)
  • 8:00 PM: Welcome Reception (Dress code: Cocktail attire dresses, blazers, suits.)
  • 11:00 PM: After Party (Not affiliated with MM) (Dress code: Cocktail attire dresses, blazers, suits.)

Saturday:

  • 11:45 AM: VIP Luncheon (Wear whatever you want.)
  • 1:00 PM: Seminar (Wear whatever you want.)
  • 1:30 PM-2:15 PM: Workshop (Dance workshop – Wear something comfortable.)
  • 3:15 PM: Speed Dating (Highly recommend wearing the same outfit as the night.)
  • 7:00 PM: Cocktail Reception (Dress code: Bollywood glam or Indo-western; feel comfortable in either style.)
